The World of Merlin, the Knights the Round Table, and the Orks are not from this realm. They are from an alternate reality, a parallel dimension, not unlike our own, but definitely not our own.
How did this world come into being? What evolutionary changes were different in their world that led to the proliferation of the Ork race? The world is a mesh of Roman, medieval, and Wild West influences. What evolutionary changes on a global scale helped to shape this world?
In Merlin’s Backstory – Part I: Journey through the Ork Mines, Cleotus (the Ork) and Perronius (young but not-yet-named Merlin) share a special bond. Though their symbiotic relationship is based on Cleotus’ ability to capitalize on his telepathic abilities, Cleotus nevertheless is very protective of the boy. He gives him special privileges, dairy being one of them. Being the extremely resourceful boy that Perronius is, he leverages those privileges to include his sickly friend, Tyler.
Of course, Perronius has an ulterior motive of his own – his escape plan.
Since Perronius becomes the lead knight and ultimately, the Merlin, you have probably already guessed that he made it out of those Ork mines. But under what circumstances? How does his experience in this hellish prison shape him for the rest of his life? What lessons did he learn while doing his time there? How does his unusual relationship with Cleotus develop?
